Photoshop Fun (Week 7)

Okay, I thought the assignment this week would be more fun than difficult but I was wrong about the not difficult part! I've decided that I need to get a mouse to hook-up to my lap-top because it is painful trying to use the lasso tool with just the finger pad! So here are two shots that I lasso'd a subject into. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make the edges of the lasso'd figure not look so sharp?

The first shot is of my boyfriend who is an avid snowboarder. He has been unable to go as much this year as he would have liked, so I added a thought shot to this picture of him enjoying a cigar.

The second shot is of one of my cats when she was a kitten leaving my condo. My cats are indoor cats but every once and a while I can tell they wish they could go outside - she also rules the home so I thought it was funny that she is huge.

  1. Hi ya,

I think your looking for the smudging tool If used artfully, it can do an excellent job of cutting the harshness out.

  4. Very funny. This is the beauty of Photo manipulation. Seriousness goes bye bye most times when you have more control over the outcome.

When you have the marching ants around your piece(selected)go to select->modify->contract, choose 5-10 pixels. Then do select->modify->feather, choose 10-20 pixels. Then do select->inverse, and then hit delete. It should erase the edges on a gradient.

  5. I like this, great thinking. My layering photo is really boring. I didn't have that great of photos to use. I think I read somewhere if you zoom in your photo and than use the lasso, that might help with the preciseness when using the lasso.
